Two UNC Defensive Linemen Sidelined for Saturday vs James Madison

The Tar Heels will be without two significant defensive line contributors for their home opener.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- North Carolina's defensive front will be shorthanded when it takes the Kenan Stadium field on Saturday against James Madison.

Standout junior defensive tackle Nazair Jones and freshman defensive end Tomon Fox are both sidelined.

Jones, who has 14 tackles and three tackles for loss this season, is recovering from a concussion, according to sources. And sources confirmed that Fox suffered a leg injury.

Fox has seen a heavy workload for a true freshman, including 56 snaps last Saturday against Illinois. He's totaled four tackles, one sack and a fumble recovery in the first two games. Fox's playing time at defensive end was largely a result of Dajuan Drennon (foot) and Tyler Powell (personal reasons) missing the first two games.

Jones, a third-team All-ACC selection in 2015, also missed last year's bowl game against Baylor due to a concussion.
