J.B. Copeland's football career is over.
The North Carolina junior linebacker announced on Thursday that after suffering from multiple concussions he must walk away from the game.
"For me, these past couple months have had a lot of ups and downs, and it hasn't gone the way I thought it would at all," Copeland wrote on Instagram. "Sadly, I won't be playing football any longer, due to an unhealthy amount of concussions. It was a tough decision, but it had to be made for my present/future health."
Copeland was recruited to UNC to provide an immediate impact at linebacker. The Southlake, Texas native enrolled at UNC in January of this year, by way of New Mexico State and Navarro College.
Injuries limited him to playing five games in the 2016 season.
