UNC Football Recruiting Weekend Official Visit Preview

C.J. Cotman and Malik Zaire will travel to UNC for an official visit this weekend.

North Carolina will host official visitors for the final weekend before the holiday Dead Period.

A potential grad transfer, Malik Zaire, and a four-star athlete who’s recently back on the market, C.J. Cotman, are among this weekend’s official visitors.

Zaire will travel to Chapel Hill on Friday after officially visiting Wisconsin. The potential Zaire-UNC marriage hinges on whether Mitch Trubisky, who as a high school senior beat out Zaire for Mr. Football in Ohio, declares for the NFL Draft. In addition to UNC and Wisconsin, Zaire, who was granted an unconditional release from Notre Dame, is considering Michigan State and Pittsburgh, though hasn’t yet scheduled visits with either.

Cotman backed out of his five-month-long commitment to Tennessee last week. With a new lease on his recruiting life, the first school he’ll visit is UNC this coming weekend. That’s not happenstance; UNC, namely assistant coach Chad Scott who grew up 43 miles away from Cotman, continued to pursue the Clearwater (Fla.) Central Catholic athlete heavily after he pledged to the Volunteers. Cotman doesn’t have any other official visits scheduled, but Auburn, Kentucky, Miami, and South Florida are possible destinations.

UNC is recruiting Cotman as a cornerback, his desired position. With three projected cornerbacks committed, the Tar Heels have already met their objective at the position for the 2017 class. Thus, Cotman is a luxury recruit.
