UNC the 'Right School' for 2018 Lineman Mike Edwards

Mike Edwards plans to return to Chapel Hill on Saturday.

Since the end of the football season, 2018 offensive lineman Mike Edwards has maintained constant communication with North Carolina offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic.

"[Kapilovic] has just talked to me about the junior day," Edwards said. "He just wants to make sure I show up there."

UNC's first junior day of the 2018 cycle, which takes place this Saturday, is the junior day Kapilovic has targeted for Edwards. The 6-foot-6, 290-pounder from Hope Mills (N.C.) South View does indeed plan to attend.

Edwards has previously visited UNC for a game (the September win over James Madison) and a June camp, where he earned a scholarship offer. Additionally, his sister is a UNC alumna and he visited her countless times when she was a student.

"I want to learn about how they run their program," Edwards said of Saturday's junior day. "I also want to talk to Coach Kap about what position he wants to use me at."

For South View, Edwards started at left tackle as a sophomore and then moved to left guard this past season.

Edwards says UNC remains the team to beat.

"It's hard to explain," Edwards said. "I just feel like it's the right school."

Despite the strong feelings towards UNC, Edwards isn't in a rush to make a verbal commitment. He isn't sure exactly when he'll make a move, but believes he'll wait until after his senior football season.

Appalachian State's recent addition has pushed Edwards's scholarship offer count to seven. His scholarship pile also includes Maryland, NC State, and Wake Forest.
