CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina wing Theo Pinson will not play against Pittsburgh on Tuesday, although he is no longer wearing a boot after rolling his right ankle last week, Roy Williams said on his radio show on Monday night.
The Greensboro, N.C. native rolled his ankle after landing awkwardly chasing a rebound in UNC’s win over Virginia Tech on Thursday. Pinson, who missed UNC’s first 16 games after breaking a bone in his right foot in October, missed Saturday’s game at Miami. His injury has prompted speculation regarding further potential issues with the foot.
“Theo rolled his ankle and that’s what we’re treating it as,” Williams said. “We’re evaluating all of the time. Guys roll their ankle, they don’t run back out there again the next day… I don’t have any timetable. We’re just going to wait and see how Theo goes. He’s not going to play tomorrow.”
Pinson got in upper body work with strength and conditioning coach Jonas Saharatian on Monday. The versatile wing is averaging 6.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists in six games this season.
“When he gets back, when they see him running out there, that will mean he’s playing,” Williams said.
