UNC's Aggressive Defense Creates Offense Against Virginia

The Tar Heels saw the result of an assertive defensive effort.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The Smith Center was rocking Saturday night with poster dunks from Isaiah Hicks and pull-up three-pointers from Justin Jackson. While these big-time offensive plays got the crowd on its feet, Hicks said they are the product of one key aspect.

"Defense is the key," Hicks said. "When we come out and actually play defense and gets stops, it leads to our transitions and good things on offense."

North Carolina came out aggressive on defense, allowing its quick transitions to feed momentum and halt the Hoos in a stunning 65-41 rout. For a team that has been trending in the wrong direction on that end of the court of late, this was certainly a performance to build on.
