Four-star offensive lineman Avery Jones verbally committed to North Carolina on Tuesday night, according to Inside Carolina sources.
Jones, a 6-foot-4, 270-pounder from Havelock (N.C.) High, pledged to the Tar Heels over scholarship offers from Duke, Maryland, Missouri, NC State, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.
Offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic led the recruitment of Jones.
Since his sophomore season, Jones has started at offensive tackle for in-state football power Havelock.
“He has really good fundamentals,” former Havelock head coach Jim Bob Bryant said. “He has the size; he has probably put on about 20 pounds since the football season, already. He has big hands, he has wide hips, he’s a knee-bender (and not a waist-bender), and he’s really flexible. He works hard and he’s a great kid and a great student.”
Jones, who is ranked in the Scout National Top 300, is the second 2018 prospect to pledge to UNC. He joins Donte Burton on the Heels' commitment list.
