UNC Impresses Fla. WR Jeshaun Jones

Jeshaun Jones spent Saturday in Chapel Hill.

North Carolina has elevated its chances with Jeshaun Jones. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound wide receiver included UNC within last weekend's four-school excursion.

"I got to see [UNC] from all angles," Jones said. "And I got to talk to Coach [Larry] Fedora and talk to Coach [Gunter] Brewer. I'm starting to like North Carolina a lot more. I haven't sat down with my mom yet, but I like them -- I like them a lot."

In addition to UNC, Jones, a Fort Myers (Fla.) South product, visited NC State, Tennessee, and Wake Forest during his recent tour.

"It was a lot of information for just one weekend," Jones said. "But, I liked all the campuses -- all the campuses were beautiful. I enjoyed it all. I just liked getting up there and actually meeting the coaches and actually talking to them. And [I liked] actually getting a feel for the campus and seeing if I can see myself there."

Prior to the aforementioned tour, Jones visited Maryland, Southern Miss, and South Florida.

Jones doesn't have any future trips scheduled. With his spring practice commencing soon, he likely will remain off the road until the summer.

There's a very good chance Jones incorporates a UNC return among his summer travels. While in Chapel Hill over the weekend, he and Fedora discussed potential summer dates, including Fedora's Freak Show.

After comparing thoughts and notes from this past weekend's four-school trip with his mother, Jones will compile a favorite schools list. The list will consist of five to 10 programs.

Jones isn't exactly sure when a verbal commitment will occur. At the earliest, he'll make a late summer pledge. But, he could wait until after the football season.

Accompanied by his mother, Jones arrived in Chapel Hill on Friday evening. Much of their UNC visit itinerary, though, took place on Saturday prior to its spring game. They toured the campus -- including an in-depth look at the football facilities -- and met separately with Brewer and Fedora.

"[Brewer] was showing me how they go through practice and drills," Jones said. "He gave a whole presentation. Him and I were just talking about how he was going to continue to recruit me and he was happy I got up there."

Brewer also discussed how Jones fits into UNC's one-back, no-huddle spread offense.

"He said I would be able to play in the slot or outside," Jones said. "It just depends on the need when I get up there."

For South Fort Myers High, Jones was the go-to receiver. He ended his junior season with 28 receptions for 491 yards and seven touchdowns, while the Wolfpack went 9-2.

Potential summer visit dates wasn't the only item discussed when Jones and his mother sat down in Fedora's office on Saturday morning.

"[Fedora] was happy that I got on campus," Jones said. "He was just telling me more about himself and what his plans were."
