CHAPEL HILL,NC--Three North Carolina football players earned Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week honors for their performances in the Tar Heels' 41-9 victory over No. 6 Florida State, the conference announced today. Defensive end Julius Peppers was named the Defensive Line Player of the Week, Adam Metts earned Offensive Line Player of the Week and Darian Durant was the Rookie of the Week.
- Julius Peppers, DE, North Carolina
Julius Peppers, a junior from Bailey, N.C., equaled his career high with 10 tackles, including
four for loss and one sack as the Tar Heels trounced No. 6 Florida State 41-9. Peppers added one
interception for 13 return yards, and he paced the Tar Heel defense in yielding just 224 yards to the
potent Seminole offense. In the second half, Peppers and the North Carolina defense gave up just
34 yards in the rout.
Offensive Lineman - Adam Metts, C, North Carolina
Adam Metts, the only senior on the North Carolina offensive line, took advantage of his last
chance to beat Florida State by grading out at 87%and accumulating seven knockdown blocks in the Tar
Heels' 41-9 win over the Seminoles. North Carolina gained 301 yards against No. 6 Florida State,
reaching its highest offensive output of the season.
Rookie - Darian Durant, QB, North Carolina
Darian Durant, a redshirt freshman from Florence, S.C., went 9 of 16 for 115 yards and two
touchdowns in North Carolina's 41-9 upset victory over Florida State. Durant added two rushes for 10
yards before leaving the game in the third quarter with a sprained ankle. With a 20-yard touchdown
pass in the first quarter, Durant set the pace for the Tar Heels by giving them their first lead
over Florida State since 1993.
