"My coach told me to pay attention to which schools call the first day that schools are allowed to call," Aumaitre said. "Those are the schools that really want you to be a part of their program."
Accordingly, Aumaitre has a final six of Virginia, Tennessee, Nebraska, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and Boston College.
He said he plans to visit one school for a football game and at least three official visits.
"I went down to Chapel Hill for junior day and I really enjoyed being down there," he said. "I have a friend and former teammate Melik Brown that goes to school down there. You can say that is something in North Carolina's favor. North Carolina will be one of the schools that I visit officially."
So did Aumaitre's coach give him any other advice?
"He told me not to close the door on anyone and treat every school the same," Aumaitre said. "I really have no clue when I might decide. I will definitely take at least three visits though. Other than that, I really don't know what I am going to do."
Aumaitre says the type of education program will be one factor in his decision. He is also looking at class size, graduation rates, location and the overall atmosphere at the school.
UNC defensive backs coach Jim Fleming is the primary recruiter for Aumaitre, and Fleming has met with him personally (at Junior Day) and spoken with him on the phone.
Carolina has been recruiting Aumaitre hard, but he says that Nebraska may be recruiting him a little harder. He said the distance will not be a factor, and his mother told him that she would support any school choice that he made.
