"I went to the South Carolina and Alabama-Birmingham game [Saturday]," Thompson said. "I like the coaching staff at South Carolina and I think I could play early too. Those are the main reasons why they lead. I plan to take all my official visits before I decide though.
"I am not sure how much my parent's preference will affect my decision," he said. "We'll have to wait and see. I'm sure that they would accept whatever decision I would ultimately make."
Thompson's Sumter team is 4-0 after shutting out their opponent 42-0 romp last Friday. He already has already recorded eight pancake blocks this season.
"He has all the ability in the world," Sumter head coach Paul Sorrells said. "He is big, strong and fast. I don't think he even begins to know how good he could be. On top of that, he is a fine young man who is very polite. He's a class act all the way around."
Assistant coach Brad Lawing is Thompson's primary recruiter for UNC.
