Bobby Blizzard is considered well from his illness but not fully recovered. He lost eight pounds during the illness but has gained three pounds back. Tuesday afternoon he participated in individual drills. His status will be monitored throughout the week.
Jason Brown returned to Chapel Hill on Tuesday after learning of his brother Lunsford Brown's death in service to his country outside Baghdad. Jason Brown issued the following statement in a press release: "My family is dealing with a tremendous and tragic loss. My heart is still with them in Henderson, but I chose to come back today because the football team is my second family. It means a lot to have so many people here in Chapel Hill who care for me and know what our family is going through."
Lionell Green is expected to start at cornerback versus N.C. State, Derrick Johnson will start at "nickel back," and Chris Hawkins is expected to get more snaps than he has recently.
Michael Waddell is "50/50" for the N.C. State game after sustaining an ankle sprain against Wisconsin last Saturday.
The defense improved last week, according to John Bunting, by way of fewer missed tackles. The next step is reducing the number of "explosive plays" by correcting a few coverage mistakes and technique errors.
The running game isn't where Bunting would like it to be, in part due to playing from behind, and in part from playing without Bobby Blizzard as part of a two tight end offense.
David Wooldridge is expected to get opportunities to punt against the Wolfpack on Saturday.
