NCSU Depth Chart

Key players returning - QB Phillip Rivers, TB Ray Robinson, TE Willie Wright, T Reggie Poole (Seven Starters overall)

Key players lost - WR Koren Robinson, WR Eric Leak, T Jarvis Borum, LG Alex Rice

Strength - Should have more of a balanced attack this season with solid OL, ground game, and receivers.  Rivers is a winner and will likely shatter all QB records at NC State.

Weakness - Loss of unique player like Robinson never helps, and no one of comparable talent appears to be on the roster.  Loss of OC Norm Chow may be significant.

Key players returning - LB Levar Fisher (ACC Defensive POY), CB Brian Williams, FS Terrence Holt, DL Ricky Fowler (7 starters overall)

Key players lost - LB Clayton White, LB Eldrick Smith, SS Adrian Wilson, DT Jeffrey Fisher, DE Nate Goodson

Strength - Secondary benefits from the return of everyone but Wilson.  Solid at the defensive end spots.  Fisher gives them leadership and star power at linebacker.

Weakness - NC State had little pass rush last year and this year does not figure to improve.  The secondary stepped up last season and survived the lack of pressure.  Can they this season?

Special teams

Gone is Kent Passingham at place kicker, who will be replaced by Austin Herbert who holds the North Carolina record for field goals and was KO man last season.  Missed will be Koren Robinson who gave the Pack great field position on many occasions last season.

On balance

The major questions at NC State are how well they will replace two of their biggest names, WR Koren Robinson and OC Norm Chow.  Phillip Rivers clearly benefited from Chow's tutelage last season.  NC State does have two major weapons coming back, LB Levar Fisher and QB Phillip Rivers.

The defense, which yielded 4.1 yards per play to opponent's rushers, also got very little pass rush last season, which may need to improve if the Pack is going to equal the eight win season they had a year ago.

The Pack has a talent for coming from behind.  Of their eight wins last season, they won six games in which they trailed going into the fourth quarter.   They trailed at SMU before securing the win.
