Howard to visit UNC this weekend

Inside Carolina learned this morning that Dwight Howard, the top post player in the 2004 class, will be making an official visit to North Carolina this weekend.

Howard's father, Dwight Howard, Sr., confirmed to IC this morning that the visit has indeed been scheduled.

"Now we've got to get his SAT together and send it up to Carolina," Howard Sr. said.

Plans for the official visit were ironed out last night, including Howard's Friday plane trip from the Atlanta to Raleigh-Durham airports.

While Howard will be given the regular official visit itinerary, this trip includes attending Friday night's Late Night with Roy Williams, marking the start of the college basketball season in Chapel Hill. Howard is scheduled to be joined by a couple UNC commitments.

At 6-10, 230 pounds, Howard is unquestionably the nation's top post player -- and most expert's pick as the No. 1 prospect overall in 2004. The NBA will be a strong factor in his college decision, as he already projects as a lottery pick by draft analysts. Other schools the Atlanta (Ga.) Southwest Christian star are considering include in-state Georgia and Georgia Tech.
