Seven recruits to attend tonight's event

The Tar Heels will host a number of top high school stars this weekend, and tonight's "Midnight with the Heels" at Carmichael Auditorium is likely to be the highlight of their visits.

Brad Buckman: Once thought to be a lock for Texas, the Tar Heel staff began recruiting this power forward from Austin (TX) Westlake in July and he raved about his official visit to Chapel Hill three weeks ago. "It really couldn't have been better," he told IC. "That was awesome. It was really cool. No flaws." Buckman is currently deadlocked between UNC and Texas, so he opted to revisit Carolina this weekend. His coach told IC that Buckman will likely choose in the next week to either commit to the Heels or Longhorns -- or decide to wait until the Spring. (IC's Brad Buckman Profile)

Jason Fraser

Jason Fraser: The general thinking among analysts is that Villanova and St. John's have the best shot at the Amityville (NY) center. However, Fraser has consistently said that Carolina is right with the Wildcats and Red Storm. Those close to Fraser have particular schools in mind that pull him in different directions. Regardless, he's one of the top centers in the country and is sure to be a major force on the college level. His official visit this weekend is crucial to the Tar Heels' chances. Raymond Felton: In the spring, he committed to Carolina. In the summer, he proved that he was the best point guard in the country. "Nobody can stop me from where I want to go and what I want to do," Felton, a native of Latta, SC, told IC of his on-court dominance. The future Tar Heel floor general averaged 28.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 7.9 assists en route to a state title last season. (IC's Raymond Felton Profile)

Trevor Ariza

Trevor Ariza: A junior forward from Los Angeles (CA) Winchester, he is making an unofficial visit this weekend. He emerged this summer as one of the West Coast's best underclassmen. "His development curve has been off the charts in the last year," writes PrepWestHoops, "going from a 6-6, skinny, deliberate post player, to a 6-7 fluid small forward with deep range." IC's Dan Baker watched him two weeks ago at the Gym Rats event, highlighting that Ariza "moves fluidly and plays well in transition." Ariza's top three schools are UNC, Florida and Duke -- he'll visit the Durham campus after his stay in Chapel Hill.

Major Wingate: He first made waves when he was named to the ABCD Camp Underclassmen game -- as a full grown 6-9, 230-pound rising freshman. Now a junior at Florence (SC) Wilson, Wingate is friends with AAU teammate Raymond Felton, and the two of them have attended several games together at the Dean Dome. He's about the same build as he was two years ago, and his stock has dropped some as he's had trouble living up to sky-high expectations, but every college in the country would love to have him -- and Wingate has said in the past that he'll either play with Felton at UNC or at hometown USC.

Jessica Sell

Jessica Sell: The 5-11 senior guard/forward has already committed to Coach Hatchell's squad and will be in Chapel Hill this weekend for her official visit. She averaged 25 points, 13 rebounds and five assists last season at North Marion (W.Va.) and was named first-team all-state.

Barbara Turner: Cleveland (Ohio) East Tech star is also considering Rutgers, UConn, Georgia and Southern Cal. She is ranked from No. 9-12 in several national rankings and averaged 21 points and 19 rebounds last year, utilizing her long arms, great foot speed and lower body strength.
