North Carolina (1-0) vs. Davidson (0-1)

Season To Date

Davidson opened its season with an 89-58 loss last Tuesday against Texas Tech in the Preseason NIT first round. The Wildcats led early, but a rash of turnovers (26 total) and poor shooting (37% fg, 29% 3pt) quickly sealed their fate.

Player to Watch

Matt McKillop - 6-1, 180, So., G - After starting 10 games last season, averaging 8.5 points and shooting 42 percent on three-point attempts, the sophomore guard is poised for a breakout season. The son of head coach Bob McKillop, Matt's game progressed quickly last season, and he reportedly dedicated the offseason to improving his athleticism. If he can get open, he's a deadly long-range shooter. McKillop was Davidson's lone bright spot (18 points, 4-9 3pt) in the season-opener. Also keep an eye on sophomore forward Ian Johnson. The 6-9, 215-pounder might not start, but he has the potential to be all-conference. Last year against the Heels he posted nine points and eight rebounds, as he is skilled around the hoop and fights hard for boards despite his thin frame. In Davidson's exhibition, he had 23 points and 8 rebounds. "He always seems to perform exceptionally well against highly-ranked teams," Davidson head coach Bob McKillop says of Johnson. "His challenge this year will be consistent play, a challenge I am convinced he will meet because of his work ethic and basketball I.Q."
