Profiling Midnight visitor Marquie Cooke

There were some big-name recruits in Chapel Hill this past weekend. Senior Jason Fraser was on an official visit, senior Brad Buckman returned for a second trip to UNC in the last month, senior Raymond Felton came to watch his future teammates, while juniors Trevor Ariza and Major Wingate scoped out a campus they'll be considering throughout the next year.

But the sixth recruit sitting courtside at center court during Friday night's "Midnight with the Heels" was Marquie Cooke.

Cooke, a 6-3 sophomore from Suffolk (Va.) Nansemond River High School, is already making waves on the national recruiting scene with the star-studded Boo Williams AAU team based out of Virginia.

IC's Recruiting Analyst, Clint Jackson, has seen Cooke numerous times and provides the following scouting report.

"Marquie Cooke is a tough point guard who's already got a super-strong physique. He is able to physically abuse other point guards due to his build and aggressive approach to the game. He's quick and efficient in transition and very explosive around the hoop.

"His outside jumper is getting more consistent and his defense on the ball is fantastic. Cooke is going to be one of the most sought after point guards in his class (of 2004)."
