Haywood sidelined with thumb injury

Washington Wizards rookie, and Tar Heel grad, Brendan Haywood suffered torn ligaments in his left thumb in a Saturday exhibition game against the Miami Heat, according to head coach Doug Collins.

Collins told the Washington Post that Haywood is expected to miss three weeks -- or up to two months if the injury requires surgery.

"Brendan knows how to play," Wizards head coach Doug Collins told the Washington Times. "He's tall and he can block shots and run the floor well. If you get him the ball in the paint he's got an excellent jump hook."
