Carolina staff visits with Jones

As Lake Gibson upset Columbia (Lake City, Fla.) this past Friday in the fourth round of Florida's 4A State playoffs Rashaun Jones's senior football season ended, but his recruiting season truly began.

"[The UNC staff] visited me this past week," said the 6-1, 180-pounder of his in-home visit. "It went pretty good. He show me some stats from last year, he talked about playing time, and talked about how North Carolina would be a good fit."

"He said they started 15 true freshmen this year," added Jones. "He thinks I will have a really good shot at competing for a position."

The position the Tar Heels would love to see Jones play next season is safety. His hard hitting ability, speed (4.55 forty-yard dash time), and defensive awareness (8 interceptions) give him the potential to not only start but also excel at either strong or free safety positions.

Jones claims to be wide open while having a completely empty official visit schedule despite rumors and reports.

"I'm still open right now," remarked Jones. "No sir, no visits set up yet, but North Carolina is definitely a place I want to visit."

Closing his high school career, Jones caught 21 passes for 390 yards and six touchdowns from his wide receiver position.
