A native of Tampa, Fla, Edwards was one of 12 true freshmen to see playing time in 2003. He played primarily on special teams in the first four games of the season before earning his first career start at outside linebacker vs. Virginia. In that game, he made 12 tackles and recovered a fumble. Two weeks later, he was named ACC Rookie of the Week for his performance against Arizona State. Edwards made 15 tackles, including 12 solo stops against the Sun Devils.
Edwards Named To Freshman All-America Team
"I'm extremely proud of Larry," said head coach John Bunting. "As a true freshman, he became a leader on our defense with his ability to make plays all over the field. He truly deserves this honor and I'm excited about his future as a Tar Heel."
