News on two ACC seven-footers

Wake Forest redshirt freshmen Dshamal Schoetz's season ended before it really began. The 7-0, 261-pound center suffered torn anterior-cruciate and medial-collateral ligaments in his right knee at practice on Friday and will miss the season.

"I think it has a big effect," Wake Forest Coach Skip Prosser told the Winston-Salem Journal. "Number one, it's a heartbreak for the kid. To sit out the whole year and not be able to play and then have to sit out another whole year, it's devastating. We had a very thin frontline anyway, and now we're paper thin on the frontline. So it also hurts the team."

Maryland center Matt Slaninka, who stands 7-4 at 257 pounds, will reportedly transfer, according to Terrapin Times. He redshirted his freshmen season in 2000-2001.
