Best Win to Date: Dec. 20 - Miami 72, Temple 66. Darius Rice led all scorers with 25 points, including five-threes. Trailing by two with under two minutes remaining, the 'Canes scored 10 of the last 12 points en route to the win.
Cupcakes: Out of 326 Division I teams, Miami's Strength of Schedule rating currently stands at No. 300 -- and that's despite playing three top 50 opponents. So why is their rating so low? Check out these teams UM has beaten this year: UL-Monroe, Stetson, Florida Intl, UMBC, NC A&T, Fla. Atlantic, IPFW and Savannah State.
Players to Watch: Few expected to see Darius Rice stay four years in college, but he's a senior now at Miami, having averaged double-digits in points since his first week on campus. Rice is a Preseason Wooden All-American, and with good reason. He's a 6-10 small forward with great ball handling skills and a talented game both inside and out. And, yes, he's the nephew of NFL wide receiver Jerry Rice. Also keep an eye on athletic guard Robert Hite, a versatile 6-2 sophomore who emerged late last season and continued his rise to prominence this season, now averaging 15.8 points per game.
Sharpshooters: The UM starting five is shooting a combined 40.6 percent from beyond the three-point line, led by 46 percent from Armondo Surratt.
Last Matchup: This is the eighth time the two teams have met. UNC leads the series 6-1, with its sole loss being last year. In the first ever game at UM's Convocation Center, and with the Heels having lost Sean May to injury the previous week, Carolina lost 64-61 in overtime. Darius Rice and James Jones (now in the NBA) combined for 38 of the 'Canes' 64 points.
