Lang made 9 of 13 field goal attempts, and added six rebounds and two blocked shots. Sophomore guard Brian Morrison chipped in with 15 points and six assists and senior forward Orlando Melendez added 10 points for the White. Freshman Jackie Manuel had eight points, six assists, just one turnover and two steals.
Senior forward Jason Capel led the Blue with 16 points and three steals. Capel made six of nine field goal tries. He was joined in double figures on the Blue by red-shirt freshman center Neil Fingleton (13 points) and freshman Jawad Williams (14). Will Johnson had a game-high 11 rebounds and added eight points and three assists for the Blue.
Capel gave the Blue a 56-55 lead, but Manuel countered with a three-pointer to put the White ahead, 58-56, with 1:35 remaining. Capel knotted the game at 58-58 with a pair of free throws with 1:02 left. Lang scored on a jump hook in the lane to give White the lead for good, then blocked a potential tying basket with 16 seconds to play.
Freshman Melvin Scott added a pair of free throws with seven seconds left. Those free throws provided the winning margin as the Blue's Jonathan Holmes hit a three-pointer just before the buzzer.
The Tar Heels return to action on Sunday, November 4, at 1 p.m. in an exhibition game at the Smith Center against the EA Sports All-Stars.
