Goddard talks about his commitment

Trimane Goddard favored different schools throughout his recruitment but settled on the Tar Heels after his official visit to Chapel Hill.

"I just went where my heart told me to go," he said. "I wanted to go where I fit in the best and Carolina was that place. At times I favored Carolina. Other times I favored other schools. During the Shrine Bowl I liked Florida State probably the best."

The visit to Chapel Hill was the key to Goddard's decision.

"After I got back from my visit I started thinking about Carolina. Monday night I decided that I wanted to commit. I went in Tuesday and told my coach."

Goddard had his pres conference on Wednesday morning and called UNC head coach John Bunting on his cell phone after the press conference.

"I called him Wednesday morning and he was in a restaurant in South Carolina eating breakfast. I told him that I wanted to commit and I heard him yelling in the restaurant. He sounded pretty excited. The people there must have wondered what was going on."

Goddard said that he was unsure if he would make any unofficial visits to Chapel Hill but he did plan to talk to other recruits if he saw them.

"I'm not going to take any official visits anywhere else. I'm firmly committed to Carolina."
