FSU's Tim Pickett led all scorers with 30 points, though he had only 8 points in the first half. Rashad McCants had a team-high 26 points for UNC.

North Carolina used a 21-0 run to open up a 42-18 lead over FSU, and were up 49-35 at halftime. UNC shot 10-for-15 on three-pointers in the first stanza.

"In the first half I thought North Carolina did an outstanding job executing the offense," said FSU head coach Leonard Hamilton. "It seemed as though they were executing almost to perfection and we had a very difficult time getting to their perimeter shooters."

Roy Williams said, "It was fool's gold for us early in the game making all those jumpshots and everybody's thinking it's going to be easy."

The Seminoles tied the game at 78-78 with a Todd Galloway three-pointer with 7.2 seconds remaining. They then took their first lead of the game in the early moments of overtime and outscored the Heels 12-3 in the extra period.

"Late in the first half our guys realized what they had to do in the game plan and we cut the lead down," Hamilton said. "I thought in the second half our intensity improved and we matched their intensity. Tim [Pickett] got hot, was able to knock some shots down and the most significant thing about him was his all-out effort and the intensity that he played with was somewhat contagious and inspired some of the other guys."

Williams summed it up succinctly - "We missed free throws. We missed dunks. We missed two-footers. And they made a lot of shots."

The Tar Heels next play host to Virginia on Saturday at noon.

"We've got to decide if we're going to be a basketball team or not," Williams said.
