Fulton commits to UNC

Inside Carolina has learned that cornerback Derrick Fulton committed to North Carolina on Friday, choosing the Tar Heels over Clemson.

Derrick Fulton, of Columbia High School in Lake City, Fla., will sign a letter of intent to play for the Tar Heels on Feb. 4, according to a report in today's Jacksonville Times-Union.

"They think I can come in and at least play in their nickel scheme right away," Fulton told The Times, "And by the middle of the season if I work hard, I could be starting."

However, there are academic concers surrounding Fulton's potential eligibility for this fall. He must improve on an ACT score of 15 to qualify, according to the report.

Fulton intercepted seven passes for the Class 4A Tigers and also excelled as a kickoff and punt returner. Fulton said he will compete for return jobs as a UNC freshman as well.
