2004 Football Schedule Released

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. ----- The Atlantic Coast Conference released the 2004 football schedule on Monday. Carolina's home schedule features contests against William & Mary, Georgia Tech, Louisville, NC State, Miami and Virginia Tech. The Tar Heels face road games at Virginia, Florida State, Utah, Wake Forest and Duke.

"Once again, we play an exciting and challenging schedule," said head coach John Bunting. "That is something I have felt strongly about since I became the head coach. It will be exciting for our players and fans to have both ACC newcomers Miami and Virginia Tech visiting Chapel Hill this year."

Schedule Notes
* Carolina will face eight bowl teams in 2004, including Virginia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Florida State, NC State, Utah, Miami and Virginia Tech.
* This is the first time since 2000 that the Tar Heels will play just 11 regular-season games.
* Carolina is facing Virginia Tech for the first time since beating the Hokies, 42-3 in the 1997 Gator Bowl. Carolina and Virginia Tech have not met in a regular-season game since 1946, a 14-14 tie in Chapel Hill. Virginia Tech leads the series with Carolina, 11-9-6.
* Carolina leads the series with Miami (Fla.), 4-3, but has not faced the Hurricanes since 1963. Carolina won that game 27-16 in Chapel Hill. That is the only time the two schools have met in Chapel Hill. The previous six meetings were played in Miami.
