N.C. lineman awaits UNC offer

Visiting Chapel Hill this past weekend for Junior Day brought back memories to Shelby (N.C.) Crest High School's Andy Barbee. Just over two months ago the 6-2, 240-pound offensive lineman was blocking his way to help Crest win the 3-AA state championship. This time he was the spectator, as he attended the Tar Heels basketball team's 97-86 defeat of Maryland.

"I had a good time, enjoyed the game, and enjoyed meeting some of the coaches," stated Barbee. "We watched the game and at halftime we talked to some of the coaches and had refreshments."

Despite not having an offer from UNC, Barbee lists the Tar Heels, along with NC State, as his two favorites. The Tar Heel coaching staff is still in the process of evaluating Barbee.

"They told me that they are looking forward to hearing more about me, talking to me and seeing me on film," remarked Barbee.

Although no timeframe has been set, Barbee hopes his recruitment isn't a long, drawn out process. He also sees benefits in possibly becoming a Tar Heel.

"I have to start to look into it a little bit, seeing what is at the schools and thinking about it," Barbee said. "Hopefully I won't have to wait that long. I do like North Carolina, though. I like everything about the school and I think it would be a good decision to go there."

Barbee's Junior Day schedule is far from done with upcoming stops to Duke and NC State. He also plans to attend summer camps at Chapel Hill and NC State.
