Heels in Smith's Top 6

Tyler Smith (No. 9, Insiders.com) is hoping to take a couple official visits before school ends this year, but the Giles County (Tenn.) standout junior isn't sure whether he'll be able to swing it – or whether he'll just have to wait to take all his visits come next September.

The 6-7, 215-pound forward maintains that those who already have him pegged for Tennessee are off-base. However, the Vols are certainly in the mix for his services.

"Florida has been the most aggressive, other than Tennessee," Smith said. "North Carolina has also been sending me a lot of stuff lately."

Smith said that, as of now, the schools he is most serious about include Tennessee, Kansas, Florida, North Carolina, N.C. State and Louisville. There are others, but those are the ones at the top of his list.

"I just like the way they run plus I like Coach (Roy) Williams," Smith said of the Tar Heels. "I like the offense, the style they play. I like their program. Period."

Smith wasn't all that happy with how his junior campaign ended – with a 75-62 upset loss to Jackson South Side and its 6-8 star sophomore, Wayne Chism, in the semistate. Smith finished with 13 points in the setback.

Now Smith, who is a big-time scorer that relies on his athleticism to get to the basket, will try to avenge its loss by dominating this spring and summer with Mark Komara's Southeast Elite squad. If Smith is able to knock down the perimeter shot with any consistency, he'll cement his standing as one of the elite players in the class.
