After ending the 2003 season with a disappointing 5-7 record, Winston-Salem (N.C.) Carver, who won the 3A State Championship in 2002, hopes to return to prominence. Helping the Yellow Jackets in their journey back to the state championship will be three-year starter running back Shawn Moore.
Moore, who started his high school career at Kernersville (N.C.) Glenn before transferring to Carver following his sophomore campaign, has totaled 3,085 yards on 341 carries plus 38 touchdowns over the past two years. These kinds of numbers, plus a 6-1 192-pound frame that can run a forty-yard dash time of 4.40 seconds, will draw an audience.
"Virginia, Wake Forest, and North Carolina are recruiting me, but right now I don't have any offers," stated Moore.
Another thing Moore doesn't have is a favorite. However, he will be looking closely at his childhood favorite.
"I don't really have any favorites right now, but I grew up following Carolina," remarked Moore.
Moore's mailbox has been consistently full with invites to spring games and junior days, but he hasn't yet made plans for any sort of unofficial visits. However, Moore has attended basketball games at Chapel Hill where he had the opportunity to speak to the football coaching staff.
