UNC offers Va. tight end

Virginia Beach (Va.) Salem TE/DE Antonio Appleby knew he was in for a big day Saturday when he woke up. However, he didn't expect to come home with an offer from one of his favorite schools.

The 6-4 225-pounder started his day early by visiting Raleigh for N.C. State's Spring Game. Midway through the game, Appleby left for Chapel Hill where he spoke to members of the Tar Heel coaching and was greeted with his newest offer. "UNC offered me after the game," stated Appleby. "I got to talk to both Coach (John) Bunting and (assistant coach Ken) Browning. They said they liked my skills and my size. They said I have a good chance to play tight end there."

Appleby, who also holds an offer from Virginia Tech, lists the Tar Heels among his top four current favorites, with no leader at this time.

"Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, N.C. State are my basic favorites right now," Appleby said. "I don't really have a clear cut favorite as of yet, but those are my top four choices right now."

As a junior, Appleby had eight catches for 150 yards on offense, while defensively he added 84 tackles, 14 sacks, and 12 tackles for loss.
