Simpson the latest RB offered

With the running back position being such a great need for the Tar Heels' 2005 recruiting class, the coaching staff has offered a vast number. The tendering of Harrisburg (Pa.) High School's Mikell Simpson, brings the total up to seven known offered running backs.

In addition to the Heels, the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder who owns a 4.40-second forty-yard dash time has been offered by Michigan State, Vanderbilt and Virginia. Although early, Simpson has established a short list, plus a leader.

"I'd have to say my tops are Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Michigan State, and Pitt," stated Simpson. "Virginia has an edge on the rest a little bit. Their style really fits me -- the west coast offense."

Despite UVa.'s current lead, the Tar Heels will get their shot at Simpson. The All-Conference selection plans to do his homework on the Heels starting with his visit to Chapel Hill this summer for the Tar Heels' camp.

"I'm very interested in getting to know the area and looking forward to going down there for a visit," remarked Simpson. "I was down there about five, six years ago for a basketball camp, but I didn't get see anything for football. I'm going to try to make it down there for a summer camp."

The versatile Simpson also is a star in track and basketball. He excels in the 100-meter where his best time is 10.8 seconds. He also owns a 280-pound bench max and a 450-pound squat max, as well as a 34-inch vertical.
