Darity anxious to get to UNC

North Carolina received a huge commitment two days before Signing Day when the No. 9 offensive lineman in the country, Calvin Darity, announced he'd be a Tar Heel.

Darity has been preparing himself to join the Carolina football team by working to get bigger and stronger.

"I am up to 285 pounds now," Darity told Inside Carolina. "The coaching staff at North Carolina has been encouraging me to continue to work out in order to be prepared for conditioning when I enroll."

Darity said he plans to get a head start on his football career at Carolina by enrolling this summer.

"I am planning to enroll in June," he said. "I'm excited about attending Carolina but more than anything I am ready to get started."

It appears that Darity will have no problem qualifying (3.8 GPA and 1180 SAT) and should be ready to start summer conditioning with the rest of the team.

However, the Tallahassee native does have some unfinished business to take care of in track and field.

"I qualified for the Regionals in the shot put and discus," Darity said. "That will take place this Friday."

Darity could be the highest ranked football player from Florida to ever commit to UNC.
