Roberts to Enroll in June

North Carolina signee Del Roberts has been selected to the Florida/Louisiana All-Star game in June, but he won't be able to participate because he will be at summer school in Chapel Hill.

Roberts rolled up some impressive stats his senior year at Tallahassee Godby, catching 69 passes for 1,127 yards and nine touchdowns — almost one touchdown for every eight catches. He also returned a kick for a touchdown.

"The coaches at Carolina want me as a receiver and a kick returner," Roberts told Inside Carolina via a telephone interview from his home on Sunday. "I don't care where I play, I just want to see the field."

Roberts had the opportunity to meet fellow future Tar Heel teammate Calvin Darity recently at his high school.

"We talked some about going to UNC and that we both planned to enroll early," Roberts said. "I was surprised that he decided to go to Carolina. I thought he would stay close to home and go to Florida State."

Roberts could have future Tar Heel teammates that are old high school teammates.

"North Carolina has offered two of my teammates, running back Roy Upchurch and cornerback E.K. Sawyer," Roberts said. "As soon as I found out that UNC had offered I was all over them. They are both really interested in North Carolina."

Roberts not only is recruiting his high school teammates verbally, he is also recruiting them visually.

"I have been stockpiling Carolina gear," he said. "I've got hats, shirts, shorts, and everything else you could think of. I wear my Carolina gear to school everyday and around town."

One of the Godby recruits, Roy Upchurch is rated the No. 32 player in the state of Florida by The Insiders network affiliate "Florida Kids."
