Heels Offer Va. TE/DE

After a junior season that saw Richmond (Va.) Hermitage's Jeffrey Fitzgerald record 50 tackles (including 11 sacks and 16 for a loss) from his defensive end position, while snagging 11 catches for 230 yards plus four touchdowns from his tight end position, it's no wonder the 6-foot-4, 255-pounder has received ten offers.

Given that the Tar Heels need to sign at least one tight end for the 2005 recruiting class, Fitzgerald is not only on their radar, but -– despite the lack of contact thus far -– the Heels are among those ten offers.

"I got the offer in the mail," said Fitzgerald. "I haven't had any contact with [the UNC staff] and neither have my coaches that I know of [yet]."

Fitzgerald admits that it is still early and, at this time, does not claim any leaders. Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Syracuse, Boston College, Nebraska, Connecticut and Penn State have also offered.

"I don't have any feeling [about UNC] right now because I don't know much about the school."

Fitzgerald has been to Chapel Hill for basketball purposes awhile back. He has yet to finalize any recruiting trips.
