Heels interested in Fla. QB

In the midst of the May Evaluation Period, the Tar Heels' coaching staff is hot on the trail of quite a few blue chip quarterbacks throughout the nation. They recently made a stop in Daytona Beach to get a better look at Mainland High School quarterback Jonathan Garner.

"I talked to their coach yesterday at school, he was at practice," stated Garner. "He told me a little bit about North Carolina and invited me to camp up there. He spoke to me about the quarterback situation. He said they want to get two this year."

The 6-foot-4, 206-pound signal caller currently holds offers from Memphis and Stanford. North Carolina has yet to offer, but that could change in the upcoming weeks.

"They just said they want to evaluate some more [before they extend an offer]," remarked Garner. "They just got some film [on me] yesterday."

Garner lists Stanford, Memphis, and Mississippi as his top three at this point. However, the gunslinger is very interested in North Carolina. He has never been to Chapel Hill but plans to take them up on their offer and camp there this summer.

"I have a lot of interest in North Carolina," stated Garner. "My high school is the same as Vince Carter went to. I like their tradition and their coaching staff. There are a lot of other things about North Carolina that I like."

In 14 games, Garner threw for 1,260 yards and 10 touchdowns, with a 60.0 completion percentage (94-for-164). The Class 5A all-state Honorable Mention also added four touchdowns with his feet.
