In the first step that could end a tradition that has kept UNC's two biggest sports venues free of fixed commercial advertising, a task force Thursday endorsed exploring signage and other related partnerships for its sports venues to help meet the financial burdens on the athletics department.

Mainland running back Vince Wilson, who had to wait patiently until the end of the year to learn he earned the grades he needed to qualify, signed with North Carolina on Wednesday. There's just something special about that Vince-to-UNC connection, which started when former Mainland basketball player Vince Carter signed with the Tar Heels in 1995.
