Jones back from UNC camp

Derrell Jones, the 6-3, 290-pound defensive lineman from Waldorf (Md.) Westlake, has been offered by a number of Division I schools including North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Clemson, Connecticut, and Syracuse. He recently sreturned from the North Carolina camp.

"It went really well," Jones to Inside Carolina from his home via a telephone interview Tuesday night. "The campus was very nice. I liked the coaching staff. They really seemed to know what they are doing."

Jones had previously said that his two leaders were Syracuse and Pittsburgh. Did the Chapel Hill visit help the Tar Heels to gain some ground?

"I have North Carolina at number two now right behind Syracuse," he said.

Jones plans to make North Carolina one of his five official visits.

"I want to decide sometime during the middle or close to the end of this season. North Carolina will get one of my official visits."

During his junior campaign, Jones was named 1st team All-Conference and 1st Team All-Metro. He made 61 tackles, 3 sacks and batted down 5 passes.
