NBPA: Cyrus McGowan Spotlight

RICHMOND, Va. – Cyrus McGowan is starting to win over some admirers. The inside prospect out of Mississippi talks about his recruitment and his roots in the south.

Cyrus McGowan, a 6-foot-9 center prospect out of Meridian (Miss.) High wants to major in architecture. There are 9 members of his family that would like to see him do it at Mississippi State.

"With my family, it's a tradition," McGowan said of going to Starkville. "All of my family members have gone to Mississippi State. I guess they expect me to go."

Not so fast says McGowan. He's prepared to look at all the possibilities, even though he says Mississippi State has an excellent program in his major. "It's still early for me. There's still some options that I haven't explored. All the teams in the SEC are after me. I want to go to UNC though. The campus and the atmosphere remind me of home."

At this point, McGowan has not been contacted by the Tar Heels outside of mail. Sometime after the summer circuit ends, likely in August, he says he'll make unofficial visits to Tennessee, LSU and Arkansas.

McGowan feels like Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Auburn and Penn State have offered.

Sporting a 3.5 GPA, McGowan will have a chance to select from a pool of schools. He played well at the NBA Players Association Camp and his next stop is Reebok ABCD Camp.
