USA: Telep's Friday AM Report

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Richard Hendrix, Richard Hendrix and more Richard Hendrix. The South gave the North a heavy dose of this inside warrior in its win over the North.

USA Camp, Day Two Morning Session

South 129, North 125
East 116, West 102

Player Checklist

Richard Hendrix, PF, South: He set the standard for inside play with his dominating 30-point, 22-rebound performance. Hendrix went 12-for-13 from the field with his only miss coming at the buzzer outside of his range. He dunked what he could, powered his way through defenders and took command almost from the tip. The 5 blocks were gravy.

Brandon Rush, SF, North: Finally, the Brandon Rush we've been waiting to see. Just when it looked as if the North was going to get run out of the building, Rush's offense bailed them out. He drilled mid-range shots and aggressively took the ball to the rack, using the athletic ability we all know he's got. It's been a long time coming, but we saw what he's capable of now it's time to string together a few more efforts like this 28-point showcase.

Eric Devendorf, SG, North: The young man made five 3's en route to 29 points and picked up exactly where he left off from the NBA Camp. As good a shooting guard he is he might even be able to make the transition to the point without much trouble as his career advances. He's a big time wing player.

Louis Williams, SG, South: In the first half, he looked like a Top 5 prospect in the country. He did an excellent job communicating with his teammates and showing a more mature game. He finished with 15 points which is good, but shot just 5-for-18 which is not so good. However, Williams' troubles in the 2nd half were a direct result of the defensive pressure applied by Dominic James who locked him up and made it tough sledding for him.

Clarence Holloway, C, North: We've always said that somewhere inside that huge body is a player and Holloway is starting to chip away at his potential. Now, he's not the kind of player for everyone since he's not overly athletic, lacks speed up and down the floor and plays strictly inside. However, he's talked in the paint and has his body in better shape than he did last summer. Nice opening effort as he gets 13 and 5.

Jon Brockman, PF, West: Few have traveled as much as Brockman this month but on Friday his energy level was outstanding. He scored 24 points (11-for-15 FG) and pulled down a team-high 8 rebounds. …

Greg Paulus, PG, East: Anytime you make 13 of 15 free throws, it's a nice game. Paulus scored 26 points and had 7 assists. The 9 turnovers are a concern but he played 34 minutes and shot an efficient 6-for-10 from the floor.

Inside The Numbers

The South shot 3-for-20 behind the arc and no one on the team made more than one 3-pointer. The South's struggles were only to be topped by the West which shot an abysmal 5-for-34 from downtown including a 1-for-8 effort from Andre McGee and 1-for-5 performances by Martell Webster, Mario Chalmers and Marcus Johnson. … The high assist man of the first session was Louis Williams with 8. Dominic James had 7 dimes. …

Scout's Seat

Chris Douglas-Roberts played sparingly in his first game and showed a slick handle but left a litany of shots on the rim. … After one game, Martell Webster appears to be rusty. This is his first event and he's a little heavy and it's going to take a while for him to get into peak shape. He's got to hurry with Nike Camp on the horizon. … Curtis Kelly went 12-for-15 en route to a team-high 27 points for the East. …

Showing well in the morning skill session were Eric Devendorf, Louis Williams and Chris Douglas-Roberts. … K.C. Rivers had two buckets off the dribble and that's a part of his game that can really help him score and make him less one-dimensional. Nice work. … Dominic James is the early candidate for defender of the camp. He had Louis Williams rattled after halftime. …

News & Notes

Point guard Dominic James is down to Marquette and Purdue. He said he'd like to wait until after Nike Camp to make a decision. … Don't sleep on the Arkansas Razorbacks on Brandon Rush if he goes to college. …
