Members of the Tar Heels' coaching staff, which have offered teammate Stephan Virgil in early June, aren't the only ones hoping to see Hudgins suit up in Carolina Blue in the future. Former high school teammate Mike Mason would love the opportunity to reunite with Hudgins, who was Mason's quarterback during his senior season at Rocky Mount High School.
"I talked to [Mason] when I went to the camp [at UNC]," said Hudgins, who also camped at Duke, Wake Forest, and N.C. State, and plans to camp at ECU on July 17th. "He said he would like to hook up again, and told me that I was bigger than I was when we played together. He told me to keep doing my thing and everything will workout [with recruiting]."
Hudgins shares the same settlement as it has been a dream of his to be a Tar Heel. However, the signal caller can also easily see himself playing for the rival Blue Devils.
"Right now I like UNC and Duke," Hudgins said. "I have always loved UNC and I've always wanted to be a Tar Heel. With Duke, I think I could go there and help change the program around. I like ECU some I wouldn't mind playing there."
After living in Mason's shadow as a sophomore, Hudgins blew up during his junior year earning All-Conference and Offensive Player of the Year Honors by completing 90 of 175 passes for 1,954 yards and 20 touchdowns. The versatile athlete also enjoys success on the baseball diamond (leader in batting average and RBIs) as well as the basketball court (averaged 15.2 points per game and 10 rebounds per game).
