Coach says Carey qualified

The drama surrounding Chesapeake (Va.) tailback and 2004 North Carolina commitment Antwain Carey's academic qualification issues are now over.

Antwain Carey received his qualifying score on his last attempt on the SAT, Deep Creek coach David Cox told Inside Carolina Tuesday night.

A source close to the UNC football program confirmed the news as well.

The 6-foot, 205-pound Carey was ranked the No. 21 prospect in Virginia by SuperPrep, but was slowed by a foot injury during his senior season in high school, playing in just four games in which he averaged 133 yards per contest.

As a junior, he rushed for more than 1,000 yards, averaging 110 yards per game and scoring 20 touchdowns.

Carey was also a member of the track team. He ran the lead leg on the 4x100 meter relay team that finished first at the Penn Relays with a time of 41.19 seconds.
