Haywood shines for Wizards

Brendan Haywood posted 18 points (6-8 FG, 6-11 FT) and 9 rebounds (6 off.) in 27 minutes of action last night against Orlando. Both stats are season highs for Haywood, who was playing in only his fourth NBA game. The former Tar Heel was matched up with veteran Patrick Ewing for most of the game. It should be noted that the Magic traded Haywood to Washington after acquiring him on draft day.

"Defensively, he changes everything for us," Wizards head coach Doug Collins told the Washington Post earlier this week. "He gives you a long, active guy, plus Brendan has energy. He can cover, he can get back, he bothers guys' jump shots. With Brendan [on offense], we feel very good that we can throw the ball in there and he can pass out of it.
