Hughes to attend Blue Chip Day

One of the less talked about North Carolina leans plans to be among the countless prospects making the trip to Chapel Hill this upcoming weekend for the Tar Heels' Blue Chip Day. Allendale (N.J.) Northern Highland Regional offensive lineman Kevin Hughes likes everything he has read and heard about UNC and is scheduled to make his inaugural visit to the campus Saturday.

"This weekend I'm going down to North Carolina unofficially," stated the 6-foot-5, 278-pounder, who has also visited Syracuse, Rutgers and Virginia. "They are having something called a 'Blue Chip Day' and they invited all the recruits down to meet the coaches and check out the facilities. My parents and I are going to be going down to that for the weekend."

Hughes's love for the Heels started with their basketball team when he was younger. That feeling has just grown as he has learned more and more about the program and the coaching staff.

"They are definitely high on my list," remarked Hughes. "I grew up a Tar Heel basketball fan. It's a great school with one of the best educational reputations. Their football program is definitely one of the better football programs and they have a good coach over there."

Hughes, who is being looked at to play tackle at the college level, was named second team all-league as a sophomore and junior.
