History of Shankfest: In August of 2002, we organized a good-natured, four-person superball team competition in Durham, North Carolina, called Shankfest for 28 golfers of varying ages and handicaps. Feedback from this tournament was so overwhelmingly positive that we expanded the field to 72 for Shankest '03 and added features such as sponsored hole-in-one contests including a Harley Davidson Sportster displayed at the registration table, a drawing for various door prizes, a pre-golf social, and numerous other amenities. The enthusiasm and rapid growth of the tournament popularity enabled us to gather a team of colleagues and turn Shankfest into an officially licensed non-profit organization.
