Bynum will hold off on decision

Andrew Bynum, the monster 6-11, 280-pound post player from Metuchen (NJ) St. Joseph HS, is having himself a wonderful summer.

He's picked up some big-time scholarship offers as a result, and his hope is that he can continue to play at a high level to get one more offer that he's been yearning for.

After a big week at the Nike All-American Camp, Bynum continued his momentum with some impressive games at the Nike Peach Jam with his New Jersey All-Stars AAU squad. In one contest against the South Carolina Ravens, he piled up 20 points and 18 rebounds and in the quarterfinal loss against the eventual champion Illinois Warriors, Bynum tied for the team-high with 14 points.

"The Peach Jam was pretty good - we got to the final eight," said Bynum. "I did a good job scoring and rebounding."

Bynum named off his current top five as Connecticut, Georgia, Georgetown, Rutgers, and North Carolina. He said that all but UNC have offered him a scholarship.

We asked him to briefly comment on each school ...

On Connecticut: "They just won the national championship and they still have a good team. I like them."

On Georgia: "I like the coach a lot."

On Georgetown: "It's a good university. They can help me get to the NBA."

On Rutgers: "My friends (Jaron Griffin and J.R. Inman) are going there and they're going to have a good team. That puts them up there."

On UNC: "It's just a great program."

Bynum is also considering Georgia Tech.

Official visits will help Bynum decide, and he's planning on taking trips to Georgia, North Carolina, and Connecticut in the fall (he's made unofficial visits to Rutgers).

Also, while it once seemed as if he would decide in the fall, he's now looking at pushing the decision back into the spring.

"Probably the middle of my senior year," said Bynum. "I want to take all my visits and then have time to think about it."
