Rice awaiting offer from UNC

Tyler Rice's stock is rising. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound offensive lineman from Bradenton, Fla. backed up his impressive visit to UNC camp with a visit to Ole Miss last week. He proved that his 5.3 speed was legit by running a 5.1 at Oxford.

Tyler Rice is without an offer yet, but he said he's very impressed with the Tar Heels if they choose to make him one.

"[The visit] was real nice," Rice told Inside Carolina on Thursday. "I liked Coach [Hal] Hunter a lot. When my mom and I got there, he answered any questions that we had. He just told us about the university as a whole. We were real impressed with everything he had to tell us."

Hunter has spoken with Rice since the visit two weeks ago.

"I called them and [Hunter] said they were just waiting to get some tape on me," Rice said. "But it's looking good. He said I'm among the Top 15 offensive linemen that they're recruiting."

Rice has camped at Clemson, Ole Miss, Florida, Auburn, Duke, North Carolina, N.C. State and Georgia Tech.

Florida, Clemson, Ole Miss and North Carolina appear to be the early leaders.

"I'm being recruited by many schools and being recruited heavily by the University of North Carolina," Rice said. "I really liked the University of North Carolina and I think they really like me."

Rice has also performed well in the classroom. He reports all honors and advance placement courses, and has maintained a 3.750 GPA, with a 1020 SAT and 22 ACT.
