UNC announces addition of Bozich

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina football program has added Illinois prep quarterback Joey Bozich to its 2004 freshman class, Tar Heel head coach John Bunting announced Wednesday.

Bozich, who passed for 1,813 yards and 19 touchdowns and ran for 669 yards and 10 scores last season at Hinsdale Central High School, signed a scholarship agreement Wednesday and was with the Tar Heels at practice this afternoon.

"Joey will be a great addition to the Carolina football program," said Bunting. "He is a mobile quarterback and will have a chance to learn the college game under two greats in quarterbacks coach Gary Tranquill and Darian Durant. We are extremely fortunate to be able to sign such an athletic player this close to the start of the season."

Bozich was the second addition to the Tar Heel program Wednesday, as former LSU running back Barrington Edwards finalized his transfer to Carolina.

UNC returns to the practice field Thursday and Friday before greeting fans at Kenan Stadium at the annual Meet the Heels event from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday evening. Fans will be able to collect autographs and pose for pictures with their favorite Tar Heel players.
