Football Recruiting Update - McNeil and Firestone

Marcus McNeil

Inside Carolina spoke with HS A-A OL Marcus McNeil to find out his thoughts on the George O'Leary to Notre Dame situation in regards to how it affects his feeling for GaT. Marcus said that he was not that close to O'Leary anyway and that just him leaving would not affect his decision. However, if some of the assistants leave then it probably would affect how he views GaT. Marcus has still not scheduled any other official visits and his top three remain UNC, GaT, and Miami. Marcus did say that his teammate Jonathon Palmer has scheduled an official visit to Chapel Hill for January 18. Coach Huxtable is calling often and is coordinating the recruitment of Marcus and Jonathon Palmer. The chance to play together appeals to Marcus.

Ian Firestone

Inside Carolina also talked to verbal commitment Ian Firestone. We found out that it is actually Coach Tranquill that is his primary recruiter. Coaches Tranquill and Bunting are calling regularly. His coach will be making a highlight tape of Ian over Christmas and plans on sending it to IC to post for Carolina fans to see. No other schools are currently calling Ian. Ian plans to visit Chapel Hill on the weekend of Jan 11-12 to watch the UVA game and to help out with recruits. Asked what he thought about O'Leary. Said he is not sure how that is going to work out. Thought they would have gone in a different direction.
