Heels Offer In-State Sophomore

Eric Wallace took a trip to Chapel Hill on Saturday afternoon, took in the football game and, oh yeah, got offered a scholarship by Roy Williams. <P>

Not a bad day for the rock-solid 6-5, 205-pound sophomore.

Eric Wallace, one of the top sophomores in the nation (No. 9, TheInsiders.com), already fielded scholarship offers from N.C. State and Wake Forest prior to the Tar Heels.

``We talked for about an hour and a half before the football game," said the soft-spoken Glenn High (N.C.) star. "I was just thankful when he offered me a scholarship. It's such a privilege."

``Roy Williams told me how he saw me over the summer and that he liked the character that I showed," added Wallace.

After having a chance to digest the offer, Wallace, who is a big-time scorer who can get to the basket and also put up points from the perimeter, then got an opportunity to meet nearly the entire team while watching the Tar Heels football game.

Despite the offers starting to come in, Wallace said he's still not speeding up his timetable for making a college decision.

``I'm just trying to keep my head in the books right now and stay humble," Wallace said. "I just need to keep working hard both in the classroom and on the court."
